Similar to NH2, PSA has weak anion exchange and positive phase retention. The two amino groups (pKa = 10.1 and 10.9) of PSA provide greater ion exchange capacity and can extract polar compounds through hydrogen bonds. In addition, PSA can form complex with metal ions and retain some metal ions.
